Indian equity benchmarks the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 are expected to start Monday’s session on a firm note, supported by upbeat signals from GIFT Nifty, which is hovering near the 24,461 mark in early trade.
Market participants remain cautious as they track ongoing geopolitical developments, with fresh talks between the US and Iran scheduled later today in Pakistan. Sentiment is also being shaped by rising tensions in West Asia after a recent maritime incident involving a US Navy action on an Iranian vessel, followed by Iran’s response in the Strait of Hormuz.
In the previous session, domestic indices recovered losses and closed in the green, with the Nifty reclaiming levels above 24,300, aided by relatively stable global cues.
On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 78493.54 up by 504.86 points or by 0.65 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24353.55 up by 156.8 points or by 0.65 %.
On the global front, Most Asia-Pacific markets advanced on Monday as investors hope that the US and Iran may reach a resolution in the upcoming meeting. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi were trading 0.99 per cent and 1.10 per cent higher, respectively.
Bucking the trend, Australia’s S&P ASX 200 fell 0.11 per cent.
Overnight, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were trading 1.79 per cent and 1.20 per cent higher, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite settled 1.52 per cent higher.

The FIIs on 17/04/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 16756.12 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 565.45 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 15134.74 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1202.31 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1621.38 Crore and Rs. -636.86
