Indian equity markets closed flat on the first trading session of the calendar year 2026 (CY26) amid a lack of major cues.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 85188.6 down by -32 points or by -0.04 % and then NSE Nifty was at 26146.55 up by 16.95 points or by 0.06 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 85451.7 and intraday low of 85101.52 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 26197.55 and intraday low of 26113.4

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 890.35,+3.00%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 336.30,+2.08%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 283.65,+2.05%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3761.70,+1.40%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 4139.45,+1.38%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 363.95,-9.69%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 972.20,-1.46%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2752.10,-0.63%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1337.25,-0.42%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 4042.95,-0.19%), among others.
