Extending its winning streak for the fifth consecutive session, the benchmark Sensex surged by 855 points, closing above the 79,000 mark, driven by robust buying in banking and IT stocks, buoyed by strong quarterly earnings and continued foreign fund inflows.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 79408.5 up by 855.3 points or by 1.09 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24125.55 up by 273.9 points or by 1.15 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 79635.05 and intraday low of 78776.06 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24189.55 and intraday low of 23903.65

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1370.00,+4.91%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 828.05,+4.24%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 319.95,+3.61%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 2105.05,+3.51%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2767.30,+3.28%), among others.
