Extending its winning streak for the fifth consecutive session, the benchmark Sensex surged by 855 points, closing above the 79,000 mark, driven by robust buying in banking and IT stocks, buoyed by strong quarterly earnings and continued foreign fund inflows.
The 30-share benchmark index ended at 79408.5 up by 855.3 points or by 1.09 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24125.55 up by 273.9 points or by 1.15 %.
