Suzlon Group, India’s largest wind energy solutions provider, on Wednesday announced that it has secured a 248.85 MW wind power order from the ArcelorMittal Group through its renewable energy entity in India.

The order forms part of a 550 MW hybrid renewable project in Gujarat and will be developed for captive consumption to power ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel’s facilities in India. With this win, Suzlon continues to strengthen its leadership position in Gujarat, where it has an installed wind capacity base of 4.5 GW, which continues to expand.

This marks Suzlon’s fourth major wind energy order aimed at decarbonising steel production, taking its cumulative contribution to approximately 1,156 MW of green steel capacity in India. Over the past year, Suzlon has partnered with leading steelmakers to support the sector’s transition towards low-carbon manufacturing.

Commenting on the development, Mr. Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman, Suzlon Group, said that steel remains the backbone of India’s infrastructure while also being among the most energy-intensive industries. He added that renewable energy is emerging as a competitive and viable solution for decarbonisation, and Suzlon remains committed to enabling this transition through strong partnerships and industry coalitions such as the Indian Steel Green Council.

Mr. JP Chalasani, Chief Executive Officer, Suzlon Group, said the partnership reflects Suzlon’s strategic focus on expanding its EPC segment, which the company aims to grow to 50% of its overall order book, with EPC expected to drive a larger share of future order wins.

Mr. Amit Harlalka, Director, ArcelorMittal Sustainable Solutions India, said the company is focused on securing clean energy supplies to support its energy transition goals, adding that Suzlon’s three-decade track record and reliability in wind energy made it a preferred partner for accelerating green steel production in India.
