In March this year, the leading steel manufacturer of the country, Essar Steel, posted its highest ever
monthly crude steel production at 3.8 lakh tonne. The company said that it’s crude steel production last
year stood at 3.07 lakh tonne and this year it has witnessed an increase of 24.04%.
On the other hand, a rise of 25.41% has also been recorded in the finished steel production by the
company, this year, reaching 3.97 lakh tonne, in the month of March, 2011. While, in March 2010, the
finished steel production of the company was around 3.17 lakh tonne.
Essar Steel is the one of the leaders in the country and abroad, in the steel sector. The company has a
number of international centres like the Minnesota Steel LLC, a company located in the USA, Algoma
Steel in Canada, Greenfield projects in Vietnam, steel plant in Indonesia, and integrated steel plant in
Trinidad and Tobago. It has a current capacity of 8.6 million tonnes which the company plans to raise to
14 million tonnes, by 2011-12.
