India and Russia reinforced their long-standing strategic partnership with a bilateral meeting between India’s Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) and Russia’s Agriculture Minister Oxana Lut on the sidelines of the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit in New Delhi.
Both sides discussed expanding trade in fisheries, animal husbandry and dairy products, resolving market access issues, and accelerating approvals for Indian export establishments. India highlighted its USD 7.45 billion fisheries exports in 2024–25, including USD 127 million to Russia, and emphasized opportunities in shrimp, prawns, mackerel, sardines, tuna, crab, squid, and cuttlefish.
Russia expressed readiness to increase imports from India and collaborate on trout farming, veterinary vaccines, equipment manufacturing, and animal disease management. India requested faster listing of fisheries, dairy, buffalo meat and poultry units—specifically noting that 12 dairy companies including AMUL await FSVPS approval.
Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in advanced aquaculture technologies (RAS, Biofloc), deep-sea fishing, processing, coldwater fisheries, and research exchanges. India proposed establishing a structured mechanism through an MoU to streamline future collaboration.
The meeting concluded with both countries expressing confidence in further strengthening their partnership across these sectors.
